If one was to compare the crime rate it would be clear that Alabama has in fact the highest crime rate with Alaska and then Centervale sitting very close in numbers. Alabama has the highest population and Alaska has the lowest, but this would mean that Alabama would not be the safest place to live. In fact an individual would want to live in either Alaska or Centervale. Centervale has a lower aggravated assault rate than that of Alaska, but Alaska has a lower robbery rate that that of both Centervale and Alabama. When looking for a new place to locate its always a great decision to check out how a city, county, suburb, or state hold up against that of other similar places when it comes to crime. No one wants to live in a place where they are afraid to leave their homes. When looking at the actually numbers Centervale is the highest followed by Alabama and then Alaska, but if an individual was to look at the crime rate then it would appear that Alaska has the highest followed by Alabama and then Centervale, but both Alabama and Centervale are very close in rate percentage. Alaska has a problem with alcohol related crimes, whereas in other locations in the United States drugs and alcohol are secondary to the crime. Definitions of Crime Crime is defined as â€Å"the act or the commission of an act that is forbidden or the omission of a duty that is commanded by a public law and that makes the offender liable to punishment by that law† (Merriam-Webster, 2013). Alabama and Alaska differ when it comes to crime punishment. Alaska abolished its capital punishment in 1957, but has since then tried to reintroduce it to no avail. Alabama on the other hand does have capital punishment and certain crimes can lead to the death penalty. These crimes are capital murder charges, rape, robbery, and burglary. Alaska imprisons their convicted criminals for either short period of times to life. In both states children and adolescents are charged as juveniles unless found to have committed an adult crime such as murder (non-accidental), robbery that ends up with loss of life or assault or rape. Rape charges can be difficult to try depending on the age of the child or adolescents and how much understanding of the charges and their understanding of right and wrong. Charging children in an adult court can be difficult to do since their understanding and reasoning is far different and underdeveloped than that of an adult. Recommendations Recommendations to help reduce the crime rate would to beef up the police and special crime units to help get a grasp on the crime in the state. Have better programs put into place within the prisons/jails. This will give a positive opportunity and outlet for the prisoners so they will not wish to reoffend. Allow employers that wish to hire ex-convicts the opportunity to sit down with the convict prior to their release. This will give the individual something positive to look forward to and a better outlook on life. Have programs set up for ex-cons along with programs set up for those who may need a positive outlet. Ex-cons need the structure to help them adapt better to outside life than to be just â€Å"dumped† on the streets after their sentence with the hopes of not reoffending. Many individuals feel they have nothing â€Å"outside† so why even try. In many cases this is true, the individuals family and or friends have given up on them or they have a difficult time finding a job, so they do what they believe is the only thing left and this causes them to reoffend. Conclusion In conclusion crime is a scary thing for any family or individual, but with careful consideration and knowing the facts needed one can make the correct decision. Many criminals that are within the prison/jail system are those who have reoffended, but due to the unknown these individuals tend to end back up within the system. Families and friends of those ex-cons need to be there for the individual for emotional support. The Civil Rights Movement Essay -- Black Civil Rights in America

The civil rights movement comprised efforts of grassroots activists and national leaders to obtain for African Americans the basic rights guaranteed to American citizens in the Constitution. The key players in succeeding with the civil rights movement were the soldiers returning from the war, Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and the anti-Vietnam War activists. During the civil rights movement, nearly every African American had experienced segregation at lunch stands. In a Journal by Melvin Small, she stated, â€Å"Just as with the segregated buses in Montgomery, Alabama the African-American community, especially the segment of college students, had once again reached its saturation point of inequality (Small).† To uphold the nonviolent protest issued by King, college students throughout the South nonviolent sat the lunch counters of various segregated variety stores (Pike). It was not an easy task because these students were confronted with great difficulty. They endured tear gas, police guns, arrests and jail sentences which were all in the name of justice (Pike). A lot of students were dismissed from school for their contribution in the movement. Whole student bodies at several of the colleges marched out in protest, withstanding the intimidation of the police force. Again, King’s belief in the power of unity was exemplifie d. The movement gained national attention. With this, city officials tried to divert its focus. They accused King for perjury. King faced at least ten years in prison. Although the attempt was unsuccessful and King was found not guilty, the movement did not falter. The sit-in movement, specifically nonviolent resistance, was a great success. I believe giving incentives to client referrals would not only keep existing clients but these clients would help Family Health Group attract more clients. Family Health Group already has its set of clients. These clients know our capability as a medical service provider. We are a trusted brand. Contrary to Primary Care Group, we have already proven our worth and establish a name. It shouldn’t be that difficult to keep our existing clients. Right now, what is needed is a program which would bend them away from the tempting offers being offered by Primary Care Group. Primary Care Group’s marketing strategy is just a tactic, albeit a good one. We wouldn’t need a strategy which is as expensive as theirs. I think this is the best time to employ a networking strategy. Existing clients will receive a referral incentive for every new client they bring in to the business. When it comes to health plans, a person tends to trust somebody he or she already knows, compared to some stranger endorsing this new health plan. These referral incentives need not be monetary. These can be free services they can avail of. Family Health Group should incorporate in the health card a tracking system which can track how many referrals a client has. Each referral corresponds to some points they can earn, depending on what plan the new client has availed of. The points earned can then be converted into medical services that the client can avail of. The reward point system suggested above can further be extended. For every medical services a client avails entitles him some points. We should provide our clients incentives for using our services. This not only increases our sales but clients will try to familiarize themselves with our other services so to find applicable services they can avail of. This is my second suggestion. Credit card nowadays are doing this strategy, there’s no reason why health plans should not follow. However, for these suggestions to work as planned, extensive study should be in place on how many points to allot for client referrals and for such and such services. Obviously, the more profit we can derive from referred clients or availed service, the more points we can afford to giveaway. Point redemption should also be analyzed for optimal presentation, i. e. what services can be availed by this number of points. To minimize the adverse effects of the formation of a new health care group nearby, the above plan should be able to materialize as soon as possible. In depth study on the rewards point system can be done in a week. Implementation should start right after. Our advantage against Primary Care Group is that we don’t have to spend much on marketing outside. We can market to our existing clients and use them to help us in convincing more clients to sign up for us. With the new health group, we should try to keep up. Keeping our existing clients should be easy. Even with Primary Care Group’s broad marketing and free services, our existing clients will hesitate switching when they hear about the reward point system we are going to implement. This system also encourages them to refer more clients. Expenses for implementing this strategy is expected to be nominal, compared to what Primary Care Group has spent. The cost for free services we offer in exchange for points will be taken from the profit they bring in, i. e. new clients, more availed services.

Losing a Loved One Essay

Losing a loved one is like having the rug swept from under you. We make plans for the day, and do not think twice about how those plans can be taken away in the blink of an eye. I never thought much about it myself, until I was faced with the shock, and undeniable truth of my uncle’s death. I do not think anyone really thinks about tragedy until they are actually faced with shocking news. It is amazing how we take life for granted. The tragedy never goes away. You just learn how to cope with it and keep moving on. My mom had been going to school in Virginia and staying at my Aunt Ana’s house. She had been away for two weeks and wanted to come home for the weekend. My mom had suggested that I go back with her and visit colleges, shop, go to movies and just spend time together. I had been feeling pretty sorry for myself since she had been gone. I was working a great deal as a front desk clerk at the casino. I was really excited to have a week with my mom to myself. The wh ole ride over we were talking about what I wanted to do that week. Making plans and having â€Å"me time† seemed very important at the time. I woke up Tuesday morning excited for the day I was going to spend with my mom. I was sitting at the kitchen table drinking fresh coffee listening to my mom and Aunt Ana joke around about how paranoid my mom was about doing well in her classes, my aunt was telling her that maybe now that I was there, she would relax a little bit and have some fun. Our plan was to go to one of mom’s classes with her, and then on a tour of CNU and then we were going to go to dinner and a movie. We were interrupted by a phone call from my Aunt Nilsa. My mom was still joking and in a silly mood when she started talking to my aunt. Suddenly the conversation turned from joking to dead silence and my mom started crying. She tearfully asked, â€Å"Why what happened? Was he alone?† I was thinking my cousin went riding and fell off her four-wheeler or that something had happened to my grandfather. She kept on saying â€Å"OH MY GOD, NO†. Aunt Ana asked â€Å"What happened? What is going o n?† And then Mom told us; Fran, my uncle was shot and he did not survive. I felt as if I was paralyzed, I felt that if I moved it would be real. I just had this blank look on my face. I had no reaction at first and I wanted to deny it, all of it. I kept saying to myself, no it is a lie, they made a mistake. To my complete horror I was wrong. My mom kept saying â€Å"I have got to go see Fran. I need to see with my brother† My mom ran down stairs to get ready to go, I followed her and just stood there, still paralyzed. She hugged me and said that she loved me. I had never seen my mom so panicked. She went into the bathroom to take a shower and I could still hear her sobbing through the door. I was all by myself, now. I was standing in the middle of the family room as the words â€Å"He is dead† pierced my heart like daggers of ice. I was screaming OH, GOD NO, and started to cry uncontrollably. The realization that I would never see my uncle again struck me. After I got myself under control I went and packed my things to leave with my mother. As soon as we were done we were on the next flight to New Jersey. I come from a big family with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. As I was standing there all alone I thought back to the time when I got to spend a week with Fran. Almost a year ago to the date, most of the family was together for my other uncle’s wedding. All the cousins sat at the same table and we had such a good time together. He was a busy person, he had so many things that he wanted to accomplish, but because over a little minor argument he was killed. So my chances to know my uncle better were gone. My Mom and aunt had to call everyone and tell them the tragic news. They could hardly speak without breaking down. My Mom called Fran’s fiancà ©e and got more of the traumatic details and then filled us in, although none of us wanted to know how he had got killed. We were all trying to figure out what to do for the funeral. We realized that the funeral would have to be held in New Jersey where my uncle had lived for the past eight years. The best and worst part of the day was when they got the pictures of him throughout his life to make a collage. One minute we were laughing at the food on his face when he was a baby and the next we were crying about how good looking he was. That evening all my family from Puerto Rico Flew in and we had a small get together. A few days later when we were getting ready for the memorial service I managed to keep my cool until I realized why I was seeing these familiar faces. Once the service started I managed to keep my emotions in tack until I saw my grandmother break down. I could not even look up at her because I thought about how I would feel in the same situation. Your life can change drastically at any moment. Do not take life or the people that you love for granted, you are only here once. Losing my uncle a couple months ago taught me that living every day intentionally and purposefully is what I intend to strive for.

Most of them only knew that Russia is the biggest country in the world. I had spent a lot of time, doing this presentation, but it worth that. It is so interesting to learn a lot about your own country and to teach all other people near me. So, it takes time, skills and hard work. And the moment comes. Presentation is ready. You know what you are going to say, you are ready to answer all kind of questions and you are sure that everything will be good . . . Excellent! And you are standing and feeling the moment, you have been waiting for so long. You are standing in front of people that don’t know anything about your country and they will remember all the details of your presentation, they will ask questions. And you are happy, because they like it, they like to learn something about different culture, different people. And after that, they go home, tell everything to their parents. Then you understand that you did a great work. Work that helps us being together and understanding each other on the new level of relationship. The name of this level is â€Å"Friends.† When you start your presentation there is nothing except you and people in front of you. The entire presentation passes like a second, and they applause, because they like that. They want to talk to you. They want to ask even more. Not now. Later. Share it with their friends and relatives. This is the way to peoples’ hearts. I need to tell them about my country, my people, history, my family, friends and my way of life. It is like building a bridge. You can’t do all work doing it from one side. I had learned a lot when we were comparing our countries. Besides, we had found a lot of similarities. That makes us even closer friends. It was interesting and a great experience in my life. As I said before, International Educational Week is not only a great experience in your life. It is also a lot of fun, knowledge, new friends. It seems to be hard at the beginning but then you even can hardly notice hoe quickly it is finished. You share your culture with other people and learn even more because you get knowledge about your own country and United Sates too.
